The Strata3 studio recently introduced Jira as our project management platform to assist us with managing support tasks, project issue logs, scheduling and budgeting. For me, as someone who does NOT like change in any way, shape or form, it was of course a bit daunting at the start. But after a short couple of weeks, I began to wonder why we didn’t move to Jira sooner. Jira is flexible and we were able to customise it to work for Strata3, and our process.
An easier life!
As a project manager in a very busy studio, managing project plans, time and budget are the most important parts of my job. Jira makes it so much easier for me to keep track of projects. It’s become part of my daily routine, it’s the first thing I open in my browser each morning and it helps me set up my day.
Scheduling and Resourcing
I’m able to see clearly what the studio are working on each day and I plot time for resources based on the plans for my projects. If a plan changes (which we all know happens) Jira allows me to move the tasks to another day so easily.

Straight away I can see the time that the project team have logged against my projects, so I know where my projects are. As “time = cost”, this is of huge importance to me for my reporting and Jira makes it simple to keep on top of this.
As I said previously, we were able to customise JIRA so that it works for us. My Google calendar which is like my work diary, is linked Jira so everything is in the one calendar.
I consider myself to be a very organised person and I live every aspect of my life with a list in my hand. The good thing about Jira is it provides the list for me. Jira has helped me to be more organised. Each project has a list of issues clearly outlined with the status as to where they are in our project process. Based on this, I know what’s needed and I can plan from there. As an agency, we’re starting to learn more and more about Agile and I’ve heard great things about how Jira can support this, so watch this space!
