Websites should be created so they can be used by everybody regardless of physical ability. Our accessibility auditing service will help you find ways to improve how your website is viewed by the wider Internet audience.
Accessibility Auditing is a two stage process involving checking for standards compliance followed by practical testing with screen readers.
Standards Compliance Testing
This stage assesses the website for conformance with the WCAG guidelines; firstly using automated tools and subsequently with a source code review. Many elements of the WCAG guidelines are subjective and Strata3 will provide recommendations as to how they should be appropriately applied. The output of this stage is a set of failure points and a set of recommendations to ensure compliance.
Firstly, all design-templates should be compliant with priority 1 & 2 checkpoints of WCAG 1.0. Secondly, all proprietary site technologies (i.e. Blogs, Events, Storefronts, Newsletters...) should be compliant with at least:
- WCAG AA-Level
- The National Disability Authority IT Accessibility Guidelines
- Employment Equality Act
- Equal Status Act (2000)
- Disability Act (2005)
Screen Reader Testing
Very often accessibility testing based on standards fails to take into account the practical reality of using websites using screen readers.
To address this issue Strata3 performs usability testing of websites using a screen reader and produces an assessment of its ease of use under these conditions.
